Description:  Greensboro is a tiny town in Gadsden county situated alongside the old AN, still shipping and receiving a good bit of cars every month. The AN is down to a one day per week operation: Wednesdays.

Rolling past Greensboro depot.
Title:  Rolling past Greensboro depot.
Description:  The mighty AN used to be king shortline some 20 years ago. Now, the AN after numerous owners and varying degrees of business and then a rapid decline in business, lead the railroad to being purchased by GWI in 2005. Still armed with quite a bit of car loads from customers in 05, that would change with closure of Arizona chemical and the magnesium business in St. Joe that would only leave GP in Hosford still shipping. Here, CIRR 1555 leads a southbound freight down through Greensboro for GP in Hosford on the southern end of their current operations. The one engine, one customer wonder is nothing compared to its former self.

Description:  Now property of Florida power and light, The old milepost concrete marker sits in the woods on the former ACL from Drifton to Dunnellon. My sister owns a house on 19 in front of this old right of way that is easily recognizable with some old bridges still in place along the old row.

Description:  The CSX local for the Coolidge and Metcalf spurs near Thomasville runs east to interchange with the GFRR at Quitman, GA. Luckily, GFRR came south but we could not stick around for them to go down the interchange but did get photos...Note the bridge is GFRRs mainline from Adel, GA to Perry, FL... former LOP&G and later, Southern before GFRR.

Description:  After dropping interchange cars and a railserve locomotive for the mill in Perry, FL- the local prepares to swap operating ends and head back to Thomasville light before working the yard for Metcalf traffic. We stayed in Quitman to eventually run across GFRR.

Description:  Just fresh from Thomasville yard, the local runs south past a handful of crossings to the end of the branch to service a customer. This branch and the Coolidge spur are served in alternating days, sometimes both in the same day- but only the Metcalf spur got serviced this day.

Description:  SD40-3 leading the local in Bainbridge. There are several customers in the industrial area of town and it takes CSX every bit of 12 hours to switch it. Crews despise it. Albeit, the shot is backlit- i settled for this.
