Description:  Built circa 1880s and operated until 1978. Currently a piano, clock and jeweler's store. May be oldest of surviving New Jersey freight stations.

Description:  CNJ High Bridge Branch, on Hillside Avenue. Built circa 1880s and in freight service until 1978. According to the owner, the track scale is still intact. This may be the oldest existing freight station in the State of New Jersey however combination passenger/freight stations at Berlin (1856), Allendale (1870), Maywood (1872), Wortendyke (1872) and Wyckoff (1872) are older.

Description:  CNJ High Bridge Branch, on Hillside Avenue. Built circa 1880s and in freight service until 1978, when the High Bridge Branch when abandoned by Conrail. According to the owner, the track freight scale is still intact. A passenger station across the track is long gone. Flanders may the be oldest surviving New Jersey freight station (combination stations at Berlin (1856), Allendale (1870), Maywood, Wortendyke and Wyckoff (1872) are older).

Description:  In the 1970s, Conrail build this freight platform ramp and siding off NJ Route 37 when the CNJ branch east of Parkway was abandoned after the South Toms River freight station closed in 1973. Unfortunately the "new freight station" never saw much use as by then LTL/LCL and carload freight were going downhill due to trucks and it rots away today, overgrown.

Title:  "New" Toms River freight station
Description:  In the 1970s, Conrail built this freight ramp/platform and siding off NJ Route 37 when the CNJ branch east of Parkway was abandoned after the South Toms River freight station closed in 1973. Unfortunately the "new freight station" never saw much use as by then LTL/LCL and carload freight were going downhill due to trucks and it rots away today, overgrown. In a sense, the relocation of the Toms River freight station in the 1970s parallels the shift in the development of Toms River in which the community moved out from downtown (where the old freight station was) to the new developments along the main routes.
