The MWCNP-14, above Stansbury Park. This colorful engine set drew a crowd from across the state of Utah; all the way from Tintic Junction up to Ogden! I was here at this location with another railfan, Bryan Smith; and there were about three or four railfans waiting in Salt Lake's North Yard to see the crew change. Quite the famous train for the day! |

On a Jolly Holliday... |
Description: |
It was no secret Walt Disney was a huge foamer, and the Disneyland Railroad was his private live steam operation. Due to the construction of a new Star Wars themed area, the Disneyland Railroad has temporarily suspended operation. With that, the steam crew has placed their locomotives on static display and are offering close up looks. This is myself, next to DLRR 1 which was based on Walt Disneys 7 1/4" gauge backyard steam train. Id say going from 7 1/4" scale to 3 is a huge way to upgrade a hobby, and that is what Walt did! |

Fronteirland/New Orleans Square Depot |
Description: |
Long story short, a Walt Disney Studios film made before Disneyland was built, used an identical depot which was then relocated to Ward Kimball's Grizzly Flats Narrow Gauge Railroad. When Walt began construction of Disneyland he wanted Ward to give him the depot back. Ward refused, so Walt had WED build the exact same depot again for use at Disneyland... The telegraph noise in the background famously transcribes the opening day address of Disneyland into Morse Code. |

In the Hot Seat, going nowhere |
Description: |
A Disneyland Railroad employee and myself in the engineers seat. One of the few benefits of the railroad not running right now was the chance to sit here. Of course they aren't letting people drive it :) There is a derail flag in the tunnel only a few feet away from here! This beautiful engine will only be steamed up for switch moves until 2017 when the line reopens again to complete the famed "Grand Circle Tour of Walt Disneys Magic Kingdom." Of note from my conversation with the DLRR employee: the steam engines on the line have speedometers that measure in feet, not MPH as line speeds rarely exceed 5 MPH. The boiler pressure of this locomotive was increased from 125 psi to 150 psi during its last rebuild, and now has more weight on it's drivers. This is important as the rerouted track being built for the Star Wars Land expansion will ad about a 2% grade and a sharp s-curve to the Disneyland Railroad's route. This new track routing will be the first left turn on the Disneyland Railroad's mainline after 60 years of operations. Previously the only left turn was the switch leaving the train shed onto the mainline. |
