Viewing Album: PC: Hollidaysburg, PA ~ August 1972
By:
Thomas C. Ayers
Dates:
8/15/1972 - 8/15/1972
Album Info:
Here are five original photos that I took of a single Penn Central Railroad locomotive shifting freight cars on the Westbound Hump in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, during August of 1972. As part of a modernization program begun in 1903, the Pennsylvania Railroad built a roundhouse, west- and eastbound receiving and classification yards, as well as a passenger station in Hollidaysburg. All were very busy places, especially during the two World Wars ~ but virtually all of it has been torn down or torn up in recent years.

In this artsy-shot using the rear-view mirror of my Datsun 240-Z, #9020 is at the very top of the Westbound Hump. In olden days, there was a two-storey Hump Tower located there.
