Album Info:Here are ten original photos of Pennsylvania Railroad trains that I took in or near Gallitzin, Pennsylvania, during 1960 and 1964. Also included is a related image from the Penn Central Railroad era.

Description:  Gallitzin. Here is an original photo that I took of Pennsylvania Railroad property in Gallitzin, Pennsylvania, during November of 1960. Shown here (R to L) are PRR engines #9542, #9550-B, and #9654. All are EH-15's built by EMD and rated at 1,500 horsepower each. #9542 and #9550-B were built in 1948, but #9654 was built in 1950. They are parked (with engines off) at the sanding tower at the wye connecting the east- and westbound legs of the PRR's mainline in Gallitzin.

Description:  Gallitzin. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train in Gallitzin, Pennsylvania, during November of 1960. Shown here (R to L) are PRR engines #8704, #8706, and #8825. #8704 and #8706 are FS-24M's built by Fairbanks-Morse in 1956 and rated at 2,400 horsepower each. #8825 is an AS-16M built by the American Locomotive Company in 1951 and rated at 1,600 horsepower. They are pulling an eastbound coal train toward Gallitzin and the New Portage Tunnel. This photo taken from the State Route 53 Bridge just West of Gallitzin, which is visible in the distance. Shown here (R to L) are PRR engines #9785, #9788, #7069, and #8843. #9785 and #9788 are EF-15A's built by EMD in 1951 and rated at 1,500 horsepower each. #7069 is an EFS-17M built by EMD in 1956 and rated at 1,750 horsepower. #8843 is an AS-16MS built by the American Locomotive Company in 1951 and rated at 1,600 horsepower. They are emerging from the eastern portal of the New Portage Tunnel with a 108-car coal train on their way down the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to Altoona and points East. The N-8 caboose is #478171.

Description:  Gallitzin. Here is an original (blurry) photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train in Gallitzin, Pennsylvania, on 13 September 1964. Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #2200, #2201, #2207, #7187, #7004, #2514, and #2248. #2200 is an EF-22 built by EMD in 1963 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. They are about to enter one of the westbound tunnels at Gallitzin with a 125-car merchandise freight train. Visible in the foreground is the New Portage Secondary Track leading to Hollidaysburg, just before it merges into the mainline.

Shown here (R to L) are PRR engines #8591, #8823, and two more "AS" Class units whose numbers are not recorded. All were built by the American Locomotive Company and rated at 1,600 horsepower each. #8591 was built in 1955, but #8823 was built in 1951. They are pulling a 100-car eastbound coal train and are about to pass under the State Route 53 Bridge, just West of Gallitzin. The N-8 caboose is #478034. Bringing-up the rear are three EMD "breakers," headed by #9676.
