Album Info:Three fairly nice b&w photos of Penn Central GG1's taken by an unknown photographer. The GG1 is one of my all time favortie railroad locomotives. I'm sorry I never got to see one run in person!

PC GG1 #4880 - Penn Central
Title:  PC GG1 #4880 - Penn Central
Description:  Wearing the solid single stripe is this former PRR GG1 #4880, now relabeled PC 4880. Built by GE in February of 1939, the loco went from PRR to PC and finally to CR #4880. After nearly 44 years of service the loco was finally retired in 1983. Thanks to Tom Beckett (see comment below), this loco went on after Conrail to the New Jersey Transit to serve out its days on the NYU & Long Branch line between Penn Station and South Amboy,NJ. PC GG1 #4859 - Penn Central
Title:  PC GG1 #4859 - Penn Central
Description:  Built by PRR and GE in December of 1937, this powerful double ended electric locomotive ran for many years before the Penn Central merger. PRR 4858 became PC 4858 and after a few years became CR 4859. Upon retirement in February of 1980, this loco was preserved at the Trasportation Center in Harrisburg, PA and received a notable recognition, namely it was designated as the Pennsylvania state electri locomotive in 1987. Title:  PC GG1 #4889 - Penn Central
Description:  Built by GE in March of 1940 as PRR 4889. Upon the merger of PRR and NYC, it became Penn Central 4889 seen here with the large "mating worms" logo. Eventually it slid over to the Conrail roster as CR 4889 where it was finally retired in February of 1980 and scrapped. No photographer was listed for the photo.
