Title:
PRR 9785, EF-15A, 1964
Description:
Gallitzin. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train in Gallitzin, Pennsylvania, on 13 September 1964. Shown here (R to L) are PRR engines #9785, #9788, #7069, and #8843. #9785 and #9788 are EF-15A's built by EMD in 1951 and rated at 1,500 horsepower each. #7069 is an EFS-17M built by EMD in 1956 and rated at 1,750 horsepower. #8843 is an AS-16MS built by the American Locomotive Company in 1951 and rated at 1,600 horsepower. They are emerging from the eastern portal of the New Portage Tunnel with a 108-car coal train on their way down the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to Altoona and points East. The N-8 caboose is #478171.
