BLE 2-10-4 #630 - Bessemer & Lake Erie |
Description: |
Unusual 3 holed "rolodex" style partial photo printed on Velox paper with the following info on the back - ""Roll DEV B prints. Hold-pat-album 28C, The Baldwin Studio, St Louis, MO. Winter 1943-44." Ironically the photo is of one of only ten 2-10-4 locomotives for the Bessemer & Lake Erie that wasn't built by Baldwin. It was built by Alco in 1937. Why would Baldwin have a photo of this loco in its rolodex files? Anyone have a clue to this puzzle? The loco was eventually sold to DMIR in 1951. St Louis, MO and winter of 1943 were listed as the dates for this photo. BTW, the RRPA data base does not have a choice for Alco 2-10-4 so this is the reason that it was listed as a 2-10-2. |

Description: |
The 706 has just turned on the wye and is heading back to the north end of the yard and the locomotive servicing facility. It's too big to fit on the turntable. |

CV 2-10-4 #708 - Central Vermont |
Description: |
Beefy, solid 1928 Alco-Schenectady built Texas-type locomotive. Specifics - class T-3a, 10 built, 60" drivers, 250 psi boiler pressure, 27"x32" cylinders, engine weight 419,000 lb, tractive effort of 82,620 lb. VGN 2-10-10-2 #800 - Virginian |
Description: |
Very intriguing photo of the wrecked boiler of Virginian 2-10-10-2 #800 after an explosion in 1941. Built by Alco-Schenectady in 1918 as one of 10, this unit met with disaster. Strange that several sources list #800 as being scrapped in March of 1952. Can anyone explain the unusual gap before being scrapped? Was this unit rebuilt??? The photographer's signature on the back appears to be J.R. Rund (or Ruid). |
