B&O 34047 in Camden Station  Contributor's Pick!
There were several business cars in Camden Station that day. Anybody know why? The parlor at this end sure looks like a late idea.

Marty Bernard General A note from Bill Howes ... At the time, we kept most of the cars assigned to Baltimore officers at Washington. However, we deadheaded the C&O 15 (assigned to E.T. Rucker, AVP Transportation) from Washington to Baltimore on 1/17/69, and the C&O 7 (W.K. Weaver, General Manager Operations) along with private car "Quick Step" on 1/18/69. I believe this was due to a need to clear space at Washington Union Station for the presidential inauguration of Richard Nixon 1/20/69. The "Quick Step" moved back to Washington 1/21/69 for further in-service movement that same day on the George Washington to Cincinnati. C&O business cars 15, 7 and 2 (C.V. Cowan, VP Operations; a car generally kept in Baltimore) deadheaded 1/22/69 to Washington for occupied movement that evening on B&O Train 7, the Shenandoah, to Pittsburgh. 10/18/2010 6:10:46 PM

Jim Corbett General You would think sonce the X-4047 has an assigned MofW number, Why? would it sill be in some sortof serivice instead of MofW Service, since there isn't much Window Modification done too it either, make one wonder did it ever see MofW Service at all. 2/4/2012 2:00:02 AM
Jim Corbett General After further research, i believe that this care was once the "Capital City" and assigned to the 1940 "Capital Limited" 5/3/2014 12:18:59 AM
Ted Brumberg General The CAPITOL CITY was built in 1929 by Pullman in Lot #6275 as a Plan #3975C 3C-1DR sleeper buffet lounge solarium, 1 of 5 such cars built in that Lot for the B&O, with 3 of the 5 (including the CAPITOL CITY) assigned to the CAPITOL LIMITED. This was the second car to carry the name CAPITOL CITY, the first was a Plan #3951 baggage-buffet club lounge barber shop built in 1925 in Lot #4885, also assigned to the CAPITOL LIMITED. The first CAPITOL CITY was renamed CAPITOL HILL in 1926, and was sold to B&O in 1947 as #1317. Of the 5 Plan #3975C cars in Lot #6275, 2 (1 being the CAPITOL CITY) were streamlined in 1938 (to Plan #3975T) for the CAPITOL LIMITED; a third car was streamlined in 1940 for the NATIONAL LIMITED. All 5 cars were sold to B&O at the 12/31/1948 divestiture as #7485-#7489, the second CAPITOL CITY as #7486. These 5 cars were later rebuilt to #3300-series coach solariums, the #7486 CAPITOL CITY as #3308. The #3308 was later renumbered to #X-4047, and is now owned by SMS 9/23/2014 5:53:34 AM
