Norfolk Southern train No. 40 heads north through York, Alabama with GP38-2's 5149 and 5157 and about a dozen cars. This job left Meridian, Mississippi in the afternoon, ran up the former Alabama Great Southern main line 70 miles to Akron, Alabama; and then returned home as No. 39. The track in the left background was the beginning of a 10-miles branch to Lilita, Alabama. At one time, this was a through line to Rome, Georgia. The Burlington Northern (ex-Frisco/Alabama, Tennessee & Northern) interchange track and overpass are on the right. |
