KCS Bridge 1
KCS GP38-2's 4009 and 4001 power southbound train across the Red River Bridge into Alexandria. The train had 43 cars and no caboose. The bridge, which included a swing span, was built by the American Bridge Co. in 1901 for the Louisiana Railway & Navigation Co. The Kansas City Southern stopped using it in late January 1996, upon completion of a new high-level fixed bridge six miles south of here at Latanier; and it was dismantled in early April 1996.
