Failed technology ? Not hardly. N&W, UP and Pennsy also had steam turnies. Today most of us get our electricity from steam turbine power plants. We see coal trains going to them everday.

As I recall the N&W steam turbine was called Jawn Henry (not John Henry). Not those on the C&O.
