| Originall built by Alco-Richmond in 1916 as a 2-8-8-2, class A locomotive for the Seaboard Air Line as their #504, it proved too big for SAL so the 15 locos in the class were sold to B&O. In 1922, the B&O shops rebuilt them to 2-8-8-0 and labeled them the EL-6a class. THey had 63" drivers, developed an impressive boiler pressure of 225 psi for its sets of 25"x32" cylinders. The last of the class were retired by 1954. The date is approximate and no photographer credit listed. |
