CN through freight slows to halt along Union St. at the north end of the former SOO yard at Neenah, WI on 20 Mar. '16. Train had four locomotives, CN 5639, CN 2155, CN 5752, and OPT 2030. If the information I’ve found is accurate, OPT 2030 was formerly NREX 2030, formerly ICG 2030, formerly UP 778. It is also labeled "Carmeuse Lime & Stone," "Port Inland Operation." Carmeuse has a large earth materials facility and dock at Port Inland, MI, and another facility about 5 miles to the north near Inland and Huntspur, MI. The guardrail marks the location of the former Sherry St. grade crossing. The WC (later SOO) depot was built on the north side of Sherry St. on the east side of the tracks in 1891. It replaced the ca. 1871 depot that stood at the west end of Wisconsin Ave. The Sherry St. depot was demolished ca. 1955 when a new depot was built between Main St. and N. Lake St. on the west leg of the wye, about 850 ft. to the northwest. |
