The record rain of June 2006 capped off a rainy spring. The Susquehanna went over its banks in places no one had seen before, and even the Southern Tier Line had water over it between Johnson City and Endwell. A less remarked segment of railroad was close to being flooded as well, not as well noted because it was served only twice a week, though once the line carried the Phoebe Snow. This is the DLWs bridge across the Susquehanna from Johnson City to Vestal. The swollen river is right up to the bottom beams of the truss. This is the only time I ever saw the water this high in the 18 years I lived in the area. |
