Louisville & Nashville E8A 794 was sticking out of the diesel shop at New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal on 9 January 1961. By this time, the unit had been modified with flat number boxes, was wearing the solid blue paint scheme introduced for E-units in 1958 and had its portholes removed or covered up. The 794 had been built in May 1951 and was retired 21 years later, then it became Amtrak 224. |
