PRR ROSE Tower, c. 1929
WB. Here is an image of a photo by an unidentified photographer that was taken in Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1929. Prominent here is the Pennsylvania Railroad's original ROSE Tower. This structure accommodated yard operations, crew quarters, and supervisory functions. At the left are the east- and westbound passenger tracks: Harrisburg is to the left, Pittsburgh is to the right. In the center, an "I" Class (2-10-0) "Decapod" and an N-5 cabin car are about to couple onto a westbound freight for a shove up the Allegheny Mountains. Above them, an Altoona & Logan Valley streetcar is crossing Juniata's "Red Bridge" on the Altoona-Tyrone Line. (Not Burket Collection.)
