| Norfolk Southern 9681 is the second unit on an eastbound Z-train descending the grade at Leavenworth. 9681 is a C44-9W. This unit and other units of Norfolk Southerns Dash-9 fleet were originally built with a horsepower rating of 4000 horsepower. The 4000 HP Dash-9s were exclusive to Norfolk Southern, and were built in the mid/late 1990s. In the early 2010s, NS began upgrading these units to 4400 horsepower, and this unit recieved said upgrade in 2013. |
