CIL 4-6-0 #109 - Chicago, Indianapolis & Louisville (Monon)
The original Louisville, New Albany & Chicago 4-6-0 #109 was delivered by Rogers Locomotive Works on January 16, 1890, serial #4240 as LNAC #90. The loco was rebuilt and renumbered in 1911 to CIL 4-6-0 #109. It was retired in 1923 but the Monon Shops in Lafayette built a new 4-6-0 ten wheeler using parts from the original loco in September of 1923. This photo is the 2nd CIL shops built 4-6-0 #109 loco. Eric Reinert General You know, I never noticed that these engines had Southern Valve Gear after rebuilding. Likely the most "modern" looking, low-drivered 4-6-0 to ever exist! 2/10/2023 12:15:01 PM
