ICG SW14 1434 |
Description: |
ICG SW14 1434, Memphis, Tennessee, March 15, 1985, photo by Chuck Zeiler. Seen here is SW14 1434, built in July 1951 as IC SW9 9456 (c/n 14379) on EMD Order 4093, renumbered to 456. It was rebuilt during 1980 to SW14 1434, retired June 8, 1998 and sold to NRE. Also seen is Paducah BU2 Slug 57, built as IC SW9 9435 (c/n 14358) on EMD Order 4093 , renumbered to 435, then 1248, rebuilt as Slug 57 during 1981, sold for scrap during June 1987. Note that the Slug retained its friction bearings. The lead locomotive is SW14 1489, built as IC SW9 9474 (c/n 16416) on EMD Order 4123, renumbered to 474, rebuilt during 1981. It appears that sometime between rebuilding of 1434 and 1489 the ICG had a change of heart about the color of the cab numbers. |
