Most northern line in Europe |
Description: |
First pair of IORE locomotives was delivered in 2000 by ADtranz. The second pair, and following, were delivered after the company was taken-over by Bombardier transportation. In August 2007, the demand for iron ore was still increasing, making LKAB decided to order 4 additional pairs of locomotives, delivered in 2009 and 2010. In April 2011, LKAB decided to order another four double-locomotives. With these units the company increased its transport capacity to 20 daily trains on the Malmbanan. (railcolor.net) |

Description: |
Narvik is the third-largest town and municipality in Nordland county, Norway by population. Narvik is one of the most northerly towns in the world. The port of Narvik is ice-free and well protected from the weather. The port consists of three waterfront sections: LKAB bulk port, central port area with piers and deep-water harbor at Fagernes with intermodal facilities. Just left of the IORE a passenger car, called "Donnerbüchse/thunder cabin" which has been built by the German Railway (DRG) between 1927 and 1931. It came during WW II to Norway. The coach has been part of the snow removing train. |
